The Veena Help-line

I was slowly pushing my walker along and making my way to the bathroom, when I overheard my husband on the phon
It hasn’t been working for two weeks now!” he insisted.

🤔 Hmmm true I haven’t been walking properly for two weeks .

It’s done this before but then it started working again.”

Well , I guess that’s true. I have my good days and bad….

What is the problem? How can I make it work??”

WHO IS MY HUSBAND CALLING? Is there a Veena technical support line I don’t know about?!

Later, I found out he was talking about our robotic vacuum.

Crazy how it basically sounded like my life. I have good days for a period of time and then I get sick or get a vaccine and I’m back to square one. I feel for the past 2.5 years since my stem cell transplant, things have been on a downward trajectory.

But I refuse to let that get me! I went to Chile last summer and explored the Atacama desert.

I had so much fun at my brother-in-law’s wedding.

But even though I have been having fun, all signs point to me being a baby. For example:

-You can’t leave me sitting with no support! I fall back and hit my head on things!

– Everywhere we go, it takes forever to get the car ready!!.Must have diaper bag, stroller, water…

– I feel all stiff and stretch my limbs out spastically like babies do!

I could keep going on and on… I was NOT like this before the stem cell transplant. But I still believe that I’m starting all over again and I just have to be patient!

I asked my husband what the robotic vacuum support guy said, hoping it would apply to me.

Well, he said that the vacuum needs to complete some updates, give it time, and it’ll start working again.

Hahaha 🤣 Seems very applicable…

So take away points:

-All that chemo basically killed everything and I’m now baby Veena

-Recovery has been downhill but I’m hoping for the best.

-Must be patient… waiting for all those updates 😋

I WANT to grow up and I DONT WANT to be a ToysRus kid!

      1. Hi thanks for you honest insight. My daughter ( age 54 ) was diagnosed with MS at the age of 52. After a problem with the Covid Vaccine. Her consult said the vaccine triggered her MS. Which she never knew she had. She was never ill, I don’t remember her ever taking time off work for sickness. She is single and never had children and worked since she was 15 years old. But went downhill fast. Eyesight, fatigue, and falling over, to the point she has had to move in with us so we can care for her. She is booked to go to Mexico in Jan 24. She feels this is her only hope as the NHS will not give her HSCT. We are praying that as she has only had MS for 2years she is still in with a chance to regain some sort of life. I wish you all the best with you journey to better health. Regards Dee.

        1. Oh no I’m so sorry to hear this 😔
I hope everything works out! I always believe it’s about your mindset! Everything will work out and your daughter will get stronger!

  2. Hi Veena! Thank you for pioneering & documenting your HSCT journey for our community. It is very brave and selfless of you.

I think it’s normal to imagine that everybody’s talking about us when in truth, they think about other things in addition to us. We have to think mostly about ourselves because this is our reality.

Yes, Patience is a very important virtue.

You are strong. It just would help if you had a What to Expect book on this to indicate normal milestones at each juncture…

    1. Aww thanks Allison! Yeah I definitely have to be patient 😀
Haha and about the book, I have to stop being lazy and write things down 😝

  3. Hi Veena, I love the way you write:) and somehow I don’t know how but I am exactly on the same path as you from the start. You put it beautifully that need to have patience even though things are going downhill.
Very well written. I love reading your blog . Take care. Lots of luck and wishes .

    1. Aww thanks Jigna! I told my husband that I have a friend in Norway going through the same thing! 😀

  4. I’m sorry to hear of your struggles but love reading your journey. You should write a book!! I’m praying for you.
